“SCG Foundation,” in collaboration with GMMTV, invites more than 200 Gen Z people to participate in a survival skills workshop at the “Young Survivors LEVEL UP” event. Ms. Suvimol Chivaluk, Director and Manager of SCG Foundation, revealed the idea of encouraging Gen Z people to apply the 21st-century learning skills or Power Skills to their lives to survive in today’s world. “SCG Foundation is a charitable organization that has focused on the development of “People.” The fast-changing world and the emergence of COVID-19 are a catalyst for change and adaptation to survive. Therefore, SCG Foundation accelerates the concept of Learn to Earn, Learn to Survive by providing scholarships to children and youth in accordance with the current situation, encouraging youth to study, graduate, and have a job quickly. As well as promote and develop the potential of children and youth to have both Hard skills, or skills and ability to use in professions, and Soft skills, or social and emotional skills. Because in today’s world, a smart person doesn’t mean good at studying or get a 4.00 GPA, but it is a person who can use the knowledge and ability to make a living, take care of oneself and family, has good emotional management,  work as a team, get along with others, and give back to the society.

In addition to providing educational opportunities, the Foundation aims to raise awareness and invite everyone to realize the changing educational model that everything is learning in today’s world. Education is not limited to the classroom but means lifelong learning. Thus, SCG Foundation joins hands with GMM TV to produce the “Young Survivors, This Generation…Must Survive” program. It is led by an experienced and well-known in the various industrial fields called “Master Class”  to do survival missions using multi-skills needed in life and inspire GEN Z people to develop themselves with the skills of the era.

Mr. Sataporn Panichraksapong, Chief Executive Officer of GMMTV Co., Ltd, added about the SCG Foundations’ Learn to Earn concept that “As GMMTV is an expert in content production that can reach teenagers audience, ith teenager actors, here called “Young Survivors”, who can present and convey information to the target audience, especially the Gen Z group, we produce programs with content to convey such ideas so audiences can apply them in real life. The program has been broadcasted on the YouTube channel: GMMTV OFFICIAL since May 2022, totaling 5 episodes. Then here comes the event that is considered a highlight to combine a summary of 5 episodes into the “Young Survivors LEVEL UP” event. The event gathered all Young Survivors and the whole team of Master Class on 10 August 2022 at the Asoke Montri Music and Performing Arts Hall 1, Srinakharinwirot University

At the event, Gen Z youth who attended had the opportunity to meet in person with the whole team of Young Survivors, such as Krist-Perawat, Tay-Tawan Pond-Naravit, Phuwin-Tangsakyuen, Neo-Trai, Arm-Weerayut, and Fourth-Nattawat, to brighten up the event. The attendance also got a chance to join the fun workshop with the Master Class, Pa Ted-Yutthana Boonorm, Nui-Pongsuk Hiranprueck, Green-Nithiwat, and Codey-Attaphon, that passed on the knowledge and skills of the future from their direct experience. There was an opportunity to play fun games with the MC from each class, namely Godji-Tachakorn, Pompam-Niti, Golf-Kittipat, and Jennie Panhan. Additionally, there was a talk session with the Master Class for Gen Z to hear positive thoughts from various gurus before ending with 5 sets of the show from the artists who attended the event.

“SCG Foundation hopes that skills obtained from today will benefit the Gen Z people to be able to apply the skills when facing problems and obstacles. The faster the world changes, the more learning we all must pursue  to develop ourselves to be good at working and living with others in society”, Ms. Suwimon concluded.

Creative Idea for Change: Let’s exchange, think, reinforce, and sharpen ideas together to solve problems.

School of Changemakers, together with TK Park and SCG Foundation, invite those interested in supporting the change to share their experiences and interests to think, reinforce, and sharpen ideas of all Changemaker-to-be who are looking for new solutions to social problems in their interest, to finally get creative and practical ideas. In this event, you can also raise the problem in your interest to exchange and get creative ideas from people in various industries and age groups.

Background

Apart from the fact that creative ideas to solve complex social problems are usually developed with the target audience’s needs and stakeholders’ participation in mind, these ideas are also often the solutions that come from the owner’s interest, preference, and expertise, thereby becoming the ‘Original’ idea that is different from other ordinary solutions. These original ideas complete what is missing from the system, enabling those who face a problem or those involved to solve their own problems while the idea owners also learn and improve themselves.

Even if there are tools to help generate new ideas, in a world where fresh and advanced ideas have come up every day, it seems that creating new ideas to meet the needs of society and people is not easy.

This workshop is designed to create opportunities for people to use their creativity in exchanging, reinforcing, adding, and sharpening ideas to make new things for society and those with social responsibility in various issues and backgrounds. We believe everyone has their own good things, whether aptitude, preference, or experience. These ‘good things’ can empower and pass to others. For the future changemaker, coming up with creative ideas wouldn’t be too difficult.

What to do in the workshop
– Try using a toolkit to think of creative ideas from yourself and possibilities.
– Come up with solution ideas under the sustainable development framework of Environment, Social, Good Governance (ESG).
– Help the future Changemakers develop new ideas by exchanging, thinking, and reinforcing ideas with participants interested in the change.

Supporting Esports, a new way of survival to earn money for the gamers

The Esports industry has grown exponentially over the past years worldwide. Thailand designated Esports as a professional sport in 2021 in order to promote, support, and develop Esports careers. SCG Foundation recognizes its importance and focuses on encouraging the potentiality of the youth under the concept “Learn to Earn, learn to survive”. SCG Foundation supports the skills development and promotes Esports to become a professional career providing Gen Z with a variety of career options. Therefore, they can find stable jobs in the Esports industry, including becoming a country representative to build a reputation for Thailand on the international stage.

“SCG Foundation is an organization emphasizing the importance of “people”. Following the Learn to Earn concept, we created a guideline for developing youth skills to meet the needs of today’s world and the current situation. We aim to provide scholarships to help and enhance skills development for the young generation with the 21st century learning skills, which can be adapted to various occupations. This year, SCG Foundation teamed up with the King of Gamers Club (KOG) to organize Tournament School Project, an Esports competition, in secondary schools. We encouraged participation in the 2022 tournament for the first year to create awareness, promote Esports careers, and open the door of opportunity for the youth to show their talents. We are ready to support and promote the Thai Esports industry to the international level.” said Ms. Suvimol Chivaluk, Director and Manager of SCG Foundation

For the terms “Esports athletes”, some people still hold on to the old belief and perceive gaming as a bad habit for children addicted to games. However,  those children can prove them wrong that even if they are addicted to the game, they can have a promising future by turning gaming into a serious profession. Many Esports athletes prove that as long as they have the discipline to manage and balance their study time and training, they can study and play simultaneously. More importantly, professional Esports gaming and other related occupations, such as coach, team manager, sportscast , game caster, cameraman, game developer, game designer, game content creator, game organizer, and other game technological jobs, can become a stable career like the others. These professions can make enough money to support themselves and their family members with a minimum monthly income of up to five figures.

Age doesn’t matter, just the skills

Esports athlete is a profession that is not limited by gender and age. It is only measured by skills. Putter – Jakkapat Chotawan, a 14-year-old boy, the youngest member of the KOG team, who plays in the Dark Slayer Lane position, is another example of good time management, studying and gaming.

In the present day, besides being an athlete who must practice on a strict schedule set by the coach, “Putter” has to study simultaneously. But the training schedule allows Putter to manage his time; he can “learn” and “play” altogether. He may take longer to practice on some days, so he reduces his relaxation time to get good grades at school. Also, his skills have evolved from junior level to the professional level in a short time.

“Putter” started his gaming career by teaming up with his like-minded friends to participate in small tournaments and gradually develop his skills. He finally entered a serious profession when he was 13 years old by joining the KOG team. He was first in the junior level, but then the coach noticed his talented skills from the match one day. Eventually, the coach decided to level up “Putter” from junior to professional level.

“When I was in a junior team, I was not that serious and thought it was fun to play the game with my friends who are at the same age. But when I levelled up to the professional level, I felt more pressure because entering a higher league was a huge step. Also, the time I joined the team was near the competition. Therefore, I need to adjust a lot to keep up with other team members to be at a similar level. Although I didn’t have much training time, I did it at my best.”

With Putter’s extraordinary skills, he proved to everyone that he has good gaming ability. He finally gained recognition from every team member, including Putter’s parents; they are more open to accepting Putter’s ability.

“When I told my parents that this is the money earned from playing games. They were proud and began to accept what I did. My intention is to study and participate in game competitions simultaneously. I want to win a Pro League championship in Thailand and have the opportunity to compete on the international stage.”

Study-Play can be together with good time management

“An 18-year-old Mid Lane of King of Gamers Club (KOG), Pupu – Thanadon Nantapornsak, is another good example of an athlete who can prove that study and gaming can be together if you can clearly allocate study and gaming time. Being an athlete in the KOG team is very helpful because the training schedule set by the coach is suitable for “Pupu” to study and play games at the same time.

“Pupu” said that his gaming life started when he was 15 years old by teaming up with his friends to compete in small tournaments at the game stores. Then, the seniors in the gaming industry persuaded him to join a larger team until he participated in the tournament of KOG, which was organized to shortlist qualified teams to compete in the Pro League. His team finally won, and the whole team became KOG team members.

“Pupu” said that the training schedule provided by the coach doesn’t overlap with his study time. He also has free time and holidays to do homework or read books. Recently, “Pupu” has been accepted to study for the Esports degree at the university. He mentioned that he wants to continue studying and achieve his goal of becoming the number one Mid Lane of Thailand before taking the next step to reach his dream of competing in the International League.

“When deciding to become a full-time Esports athlete, I honestly told my mom that I am a professional Esports athlete. She allowed me to make my own decision but warned me to finish my studies. Yet, she was ready to support every decision I made. I never thought of leaving school, but I will continue studying and playing games at the same time. I could do them both well in the past, but I had to be disciplined and allocate study and practice time to study and play games. Especially now, Esports is gaining more recognition. There are Esports programs for bachelor’s degrees to confirm that Esports can be a stable career in the future.”

Even being addicted to games can have a bright future

Sun – Natdanai Rungrueng, a 28-year-old Esports athlete and a Roaming Player of the KOG Team, said he has been fond of competition since childhood. He entered the gaming industry when he was in middle school. He played games for around 3 years before participating in the competitions, which were small matches organized at the game stores with small rewards. He gradually collected prizes from many small matches until he successfully won ten thousand of money when he was almost 17 years old. After that, he continued training for nearly 3 years before becoming Thailand’s representative to compete in the international competitions aboard, for which he was the first Esports representative of Thailand. It was an eye-opening experience and opened the door of opportunity for a game lover like “Sun”.

Every time “Sun” wins and receives a prize, he always gives the money to his mom. But with the word “game addicted boy” that most people used to label him, deep down, he resists and doesn’t admit the fact that he likes to play games. Even though “Sun” didn’t announce to the world that he “plays games”, “Sun” already proved to everyone that his game addiction doesn’t ruin his future like everyone concerned.

“I tried to deceive myself that I play games because of the money. It was because I didn’t want to admit that I love playing games. I once decided to stop playing games and do something else, but finally, I realized that my favourite thing to do is playing games. I then understood that I have the gaming skills; why do I have to deny it? Even though I am older than other team members, I can prove to anyone that good game skills come from the inspiration of love, preference, and accumulated skills, together with my passion for competition. Although I was in various Esports occupations, in the end, my heart told me to come back as an athlete because I still love to compete. Even if I still haven’t reached my dream goal of becoming a world champion, I have the goal to push myself to get that position one day.”

Good coach, Good athlete

Hugo – Pongpanot Ruangareerat, a 26-year-old young man of the KOG Team, is a former Esports athlete who has become a Head Coach. “Hugo” is also another good example of an Esports athlete who never leaves school. He graduated from the Faculty of Architecture, Chulalongkorn University, which is his favourite field of study. But today, he follows his dream to work on what he loves: games. “Hugo” has already proved to everyone that he can achieve his dream and be happy with his beloved career.

“Hugo” loved playing games since kindergarten but entered the serious competition during his late elementary school. When he started middle school, “Hugo” set his goal of being successful like other senior champion gamers. And his dream finally came true when he was in his senior year at the university. He won the King of Gamers – Season 1 championship and signed a contract to become a professional athlete (Turn Pro Player) under the King of Gamers (KOG) team.

“When I fully entered the gaming industry. I did everything within a clear timeframe, both studying and training. As an athlete, I only took care of my schedule. But when I became a coach, I had to manage all athletes’ schedules. Apart from the study and training schedule, I also used my experience as a former athlete to take care of my team members, including studying, playing, and their lifestyle.”

“I want everyone to understand that it’s not wrong for children to become gamers. But I don’t want the children to leave their studies to play games. Because the game is not everything in your life, you have to balance it. Myself, for example, I always balance my life with both study and training. I made a deal with my parents that I wouldn’t let my grades lower. I promised I wouldn’t drop out of the university or fail the test. If I can make it, let me practice playing games at my scheduled time. If we can do as we promised, our parents will eventually change their minds and stop perceiving that playing a game is bad. You have to enter the gaming industry as an athlete, not an addicted gamer because when you become an athlete, you will set a goal and dream of practicing yourself to gain more skills to achieve your goal. I played games but also successfully graduated, and I believe others can do it too.”

Supporting people, enhancing skills, and developing the Esports industry

SCG Foundation joins hands with the KOG to support the gamers’ dreams as we see an opportunity to create knowledge and understanding of Esports to young generation by giving career guidance in the Esports industry at various high schools under the King of Gamers School Project. The pilot will start at Surasakmontri School and Thammasat Klong Luang Wittayakhom School, with Hugo, Head Coach as the main leader to guide and educate the students. Not the typical lecture, but rather a knowledge sharing in the Learning by Doing format by recruiting students in each school to work collaboratively to make a tournament project at school, allowing everyone to have a real experience learning through the actual practice. The students will learn about each role in the Esports industry and what and how to do that. This project will inspire and share the correct understanding and knowledge and influence the youth interested in pursuing a career in the Esports industry, which is one of the development guidelines for Esports in Thailand, according to the policy of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports and the Sports Authority of Thailand.

It’s not only about the game addiction

Although “Esports” is relatively new in the Country, giving the correct knowledge to the youth interested in the Esports industry, including creating a new perspective on “Esports” and the success of professional athletes who can both study and play games at the same time, is the proof to the society. These will prove that “Esports” is not only a matter of “game addiction” but rather a Sports Entertainment. Learning and playing can be combined. It starts from a belief that when a child loves something, we have to support them all the way by providing knowledge, enhancing their skills, and driving their development-turning passion into a professional career. SCG Foundation believes that the first step of building people to become “Smart and Ethical” starts by giving them the opportunity.

Kick off the concept “Learn to Earn” SCG Foundation inspires Generation Z to learn how to survive in this era

“SCG Foundation” kicks off the concept “Learn to Earn,” learning how to survive and building a future for the younger generation through the key mission of giving the scholarship to strengthen Generation Z’s potential. The project aims to enhance hard and soft skills or the 21st-Century skill, “Power skills,” that is essential for living and working in this era and the future, and raise awareness and understanding. The project brings Sprite, Koen, and Loukgolf to be the inspiration for Generation Z. Moreover, SCG Foundation collaborates with GMMTV to promote the campaign ‘CLASS of 21st’, bringing young celebrities to participate in activities that need knowledge and living skills showing the younger generation that learning takes place not only in a classroom.

Suvimol Chivaluk, Director and Manager of SCG Foundation, said, “In the past, we might believe that learning wasonly in the classroom that was necessary and suitable for everyone. But when the world has changed, the learning format has also changed. Especially with this world without boundaries, everyone can access knowledge easier. The younger generation starts to ask themselves what they like, what is their expertise, and what kind of life they would like to have. For this reason, SCG Foundation aims to develop the skills needed in the present day for young people through the concept of Learn to Earn. The project focuses on giving the scholarship to enhance and support the skills of the younger generation or Gen Z by developing Power Skills, which is a vital skill needed for various professionals such as caregivers, practical nurses, dental assistants, YouTubers, eSport athletes, etc. Moreover, we also encourage Social and Emotional skills, for example, how to work with others, emotional intelligence, problem-solving skills, etc. Therefore, the young generation will be ready to live and survive in today’s world and the future.”

For activities throughout 2022, SCG Foundation collaborates with various partners, including 3 of the leading inspirations to Gen Z, namely Sprite Sukollawat Puangsombat, a talented rapper who succeeded at a young age and became an inspiration to the young generation.

Koen Pataradanai Setsuwan represents people who are good at social skills and empathy for others, together with Loukgolf Kanatip Soonthornrak, Gen Z’s favorite teacher. They will share their inspiration through their own social media.

The campaign ‘CLASS of 21st’ will bring young celebrities from 3 generations of GMMTV, such as Chris Perawat, Pond Naravit, Gemini Norawit, to do missions while sharing their knowledge and experiences and simultaneously understanding their future skills with the audience. They need to overcome challenges in several classes under the concept ‘Young Survivor, this generation will survive’, which will be broadcasted on the YouTube channel GMMTV.

However, there is another key mission of SCG Foundation, which is giving a scholarship to children and youth. SCG Foundation has been providing scholarships under the concept Learn to Earn in a total of 1,700 scholarships worth more than 40 million Baht. The scholarship includes high vocational certificate scholarships, bachelor’s degree scholarships, and short course scholarships, namely Public Health and Medicine, S-curve industry, new S-curve industry, IT, and other vocational courses.

Sakchai Namlao was granted a scholarship for a short vocational course from SCG Foundation once he was a youth and became a practical nurse. He said, “Because my family could not afford the university tuition fee for me, I thought that the only way was to stop studying. But I learned that SCG Foundation has a scholarship for a short vocational course, which is practical because you can choose any course to learn essential professional skills to find work as soon as possible. I not only developed professional skills but also can efficiently use social skills that I learned to adapt to my working life. I would like to say thank you very much to the Foundation that allowed me to have lifetime professional skills. Also, I can go back and do voluntary work helping others which is always my intention.”

The concept of Learn to Earn can help children and youths be ready for any changes in the world. The key mission of SCG Foundation is to emphasize our determination to build ‘humans’ growing up to be ‘smart and ethical’ to continue helping others in our society. Youth In Charge ; Empowering platform for a new generation Towards social transformation and country sustainable development

18 September 2021, Bangkok – In the Lead (Social Enterprise) Co., Ltd. organized the Youth In Charge The Kickoff event online to launch “Youth In Charge”, a platform providing opportunities for leadership development in Thai youth. This platform was held by working together with partners from the public sector, the private sector, the civil society and a network of educational institutions to create a space for young people who were interested in and committed to become Future Leader to lead change in order to meet, exchange, learn and work together. The said platform also initiated the “Youth In Charge Leadership Academy” that gives such youths the opportunity to learn from the real leaders from all sectors. Therefore, in a positive learning environment, youngsters are encouraged to think, speak, express themselves, ask questions and challenge those beliefs in the old paradigms which lead to social movement and our country’s sustainable development in the future.

Erica Maesincee, co-founder of the Youth In Charge platform, Managing Director of In the Lead (Social Enterprise) Co., Ltd. said: “Nowadays, our world is undergoing rapid and sudden changes. There is continuous improvement that moving forward. The new generation can easily access to information from here, there, and everywhere. Accordingly, they are both observant, attentive, acquired new perspectives and comprehensive wide-ranging interests. As the world outside their schools and beyond their universities grew wider and wider. Educational institutions and educational systems alone may not always be the supporting environments for them unleashing energy, showing potential and developing youth leadership. Thus, we initiated the Youth In Charge platform to open up a space for young people to expose their talents to the fullest. Recently, Youth In Charge and its partners including National Research Council of Thailand, Siam Cement Group, SCG Foundation, Tourism Authority of Thailand, Toyota Motor Thailand Company Limited, PTT Public Company Limited and Bangkok Bank Public Company Limited have simultaneously initiated Youth In Charge Leadership Academy as a platform to develop leadership abilities and opportunities for Thai youth to open up the world outside the classroom, expanding learning activities out of the educational institutions. In addition, this platform would open the window of opportunities for youth from different backgrounds and interests to work together, exchange and learn from each other as well as allowing the youth to play a leading role or participate in addressing the challenges and driving important national agendas. Recently, we announced the list of youth transformational leaders who have been selected to join the Youth In Charge Leadership Academy, of 85 people aged 16 – 26 years old from both Bangkok and other provinces covering various youth groups in a wide range of knowledge, abilities and interests. We are proud and believe that the selected youth change leaders truly represent the diversity of today’s young generations in Thailand.

Youth In Charge Leadership Academy, the official commencement date will be on October 2, 2021 with an emphasis on interaction, creating a fun collaborative learning environment and challenging young people to think and try on new things that they have never done before as well as to develop and improve skills that they may not be incapable. This would result in discovery of genuine leading potential of each ones. We sincerely hope that this platform we have created could empower these young people to develop approaches and complement each other or rather grow together in the future.”

Youth In Charge Leadership Academy will be equipped with experienced leaders from the private sector, government and civil society to exchange experiences of leading organization, people managements, crisis managements and coping with specific situations, including bringing specific knowledge they have inherited to the youth.  Hopefully, we wish that Youth In Charge Leadership Academy and these first 85 youth change leaders (Future Changers) will be a motivation and inspiration. Furthermore, they would also assist being a “multiplier” in creating the opportunity society and expanding the network to other youth groups.

We believe that the platform and network of youth change leaders we are building, will be an example to society to potentially see this young generation as reflective and intelligent in their own aspects and diversity. And when they come together, the great power is created. Importantly, we hope people to perceive that a creative space for gathering of youth and adults from all sectors are possible. Although, things that they thinking or doing today only give a small step. But if the adults are being supportive and cooperative. It can definitely lead to change and even further big steps.”
